People check their social media on their phone after waking up as a morning ritual.

  • Refresh VR is a 10-min social media+fitness experience that allows users to create physically and mentally non-strenuous exercises .The experience facilitates a user to interact with live, trending social media content (such as #SaltBae) by stretching their upper body in a series of moves. The immersive experience is coupled with the physical environment, where the user sits on a fitness bench. The project is a playful way to merge physical realities and virtual content.

1. Arrange social media button spatially
Making the button small and floating can trigger user to hit intuitively. Virtual reality interaction experience suspends the user’s awareness of his body movements.

2.  Stretch your arms to interact.

3.  Let’s stretch with Saltbae within 10 mins to feel refreshing
The design of a floating instructor in the air is to guide user to look around the environment intuitively and prepare user for the upcoming exercises.

1. Prepare user

I used physical fitness bench chair to suggest it is a VR fitness experience. When the user is transported into this VR environment, the user is landed on the virtual fitness chair.  

This physcial chair also suggests a stationary experience.



2. Wear VR gear first
Ideally, the user should wear VR gear first in front of fitness bench and then sit down. However, the most users would like to sit down on the bench first and let the third person to handle controllers to themselves. After wearing VR gear, the user would lost his spatial perception of reality.

Conclusion

This design research focuses on body-refreshing experience and an alternative way to interact with their social media account in Virtual Reality. It comments on people's everyday social media behaviors but adds an physcially active asepct. It transforms digital experiences into a tangible function.

There is evidence that addiction to social media is caused through chemcials released in the body during the process of interactions. Social media affects the brain in the same way that non-strenuous cardio does.
